Mishloach Manot consists of sending two portions of different types of food. According to some opinions each food item, must be sent in its own container and not unified in one basket or box. This opinion, is based on a Talmudic concept which considers anything contained in one vessel to be one item. Since mishloach manot needs to be two items, according to this opinion, the sender would not fulfill his/her obligation. Most poskim do not hold like this and therefore the minhag is to put both food items in one container.
